Unexpected repairs to Alaska Airlines freighters delay holiday season shipments

Submitted

This week, Alaska Airlines announced that the three cargo jets that it uses to deliver freight to communities statewide needed repairs and would be pulled out of service. That means delays on rural deliveries during the holiday season. “It centers around the integrity of the bulkhead of the bulkhead known as a 9g rigid barrier wall,” said Alaska Airlines spokesman Tim Thompson. And bully for the supplemental freight folks whose phones ring off the wall this time of year. My pay stub was rewarded on numerous occasions by the 'company' that advertised "when it absolutely has to be there overnight". The down side was that phone was ringin right up to Xmas eve, if the weather sucked! That old industry adage, "why bother callin' about the weather, you're goin' anyway" was not coined by an airline, FEDEX or UPSCO pilot.
